Purple Floral Heidi Dress

The weather is finally starting to turn into a consistent approximation of spring, and I'm chuffed as chips! I don't think I've ever appreciated a 70-degree day more than I do right now, after surviving a totally mild Chicago winter. For one thing, it's much more pleasant to take blog photos when going outside doesn't require a coat. For another, five-ish months of covering my head with a hat all the time has left an odd stripe in my hair.

Jeez, am I really talking about the weather?!? Enough of that; let's cut to the chase, shall we?

This dress is so perfect on so many levels: the print, fit, quality, and colors are all on point. I hate to be a traitor to my generation or whatever, but I must admit that I prefer Pinup Girl Clothing's Heidi dress to their Jenny dress. That was a weird sentence for me to write, since Jenny and Heidi are the names of two of my closest friends on this Earth. So, uh, disclaimer: my preference in dresses implies no corresponding preference in people! I couldn't choose between them.

This dress makes me feel so confident in my own skin. I'm honestly a little baffled by why this dress (or a short-sleeved version) isn't available in more colors. If PUG released this style in some of their new novelty prints, I would fall over a la Luigi (the Fiat 500 who kicks butt at pit stops) at the end of Cars. If they released this style in the coveted tiki or picnic prints, it would end me.

That said, I was so glad to find this long-sleeved purple number on one of the swap/sell groups I'm in, since it's discontinued. The colors are just so gorgeous and the scale of the print is perfect!
Why yes, it does match this purse; thanks for noticing ;)!

I talked about the fit of the Heidi dresses a little here, but just to recap: this dress runs a size larger than most other PUG dresses. If, like me, you're somewhat top-heavy and have a squishy middle (or alternatively, a small waist relative to your bust), it's absolutely perfect, since the bust-to-waist ratio is pretty extreme. I measure about 38-39" in the bust and around 30-31" in the waist, and the medium fits me exactly.

A dress like this doesn't need much in the way of styling, in my opinion, so I kept it pretty simple: a wicker purse in the same lavender as the pattern, silvery ballet flats, red lipstick, and one of my favorite Atomic Lucite brooches! While this dress also looks great with a petticoat, I wanted to 1) show how the Heidi drapes without any underskirt and 2) avoid taking up two seats on the bus.
Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope (of more Heidis!)
Dress: Pinup Girl Clothing, secondhand
Shoes: Ross Dress for Less
Purse: Pinup Girl Clothing (restocking soon!)
Brooch and earrings: Atomic Lucite

  1. Lovely!!! The long sleeved Heidi is a bit underrated in my opinion. I live in a warm climate so I am unlikely to wear long sleeved dresses, but it is a wonderful dress. Loving how full the skirt is!

    1. Thanks, Connie -- you are such a lovely positive person <3! Even when I lived in LA, I'd wear long-sleeved dresses, because I always worked in freezing cold buildings! Now that I live in Chicago, though, the long sleeves are a necessity. I want to find the blue one!

    1. Thanks, Bristol! I really like orange and purple together, and the purples of this dress are too cool-toned for me without something fiery to warm them up!

  3. I've always loved this dress! I own a few Heidis but all sleeveless ones! Looks awesome on you! So funny though bc I feel the Heidis fun...maybe not small, but tighter than the other PUG dresses I have! XO
PS- When my wrist is better healed I'll try to catch up with what I missed ;)

    1. This pattern got me from the get-go! I would really like to find the blue version as well. I don't think I've ever seen you in one of your Heidis, but I bet it looks awesome on you!

Hope the wrist heals soon, but make sure you don't push yourself too fast. Will you be doing PT for it?
