When I was still teaching, I had two reliable first-day-of-class icebreaker questions. The first was "if you had to choose a song that would play every time you walked into a room, what would it be?" (Mine is the Imperial March, a.k.a. Darth Vader's theme, now and forever!) The second was a bit more relevant to the subject matter of my political science classes: "What is your earliest political memory?"
Today is June 4th, and those of you who obsessively track anniversaries of auspicious dates might have guessed where I'm going with this one. My earliest political memory is seeing the footage of the tanks rolling into Tiananmen Square on the television in my living room, twenty-seven years ago today. I remember feeling so confused, and a little frightened of the tanks, which was eminently reasonable. Since then, I've been to Tiananmen Square and learned a lot about Chinese politics, and it's still hard to wrap my mind around the events of June 4, 1989.
In other, happier news, here's my newest Bernie Dexter dress, along with my new Atomic Lucite necklace!

Thanks to Lauren-Blair, I knew that I'd totally love the Veronique style, and since I already have one in this cut, I knew that it would fit me to a T. I went with a large for my 39" bust and 31" waist, and it was perfect. And happily, I was just as in love with the print as I'd expected.
More exciting even than another toile dress was this amazing necklace! It's the Deathly Hallows symbol in a lovely Snape tribute, and it gives me So Many Feels whenever I look at it! It's very rare indeed that I take off my usual necklace, but for this gorgeous lucite creation, I can handle leaving my usual adornment in a very safe spot while I flit about in my sparkly gorgeousness!
Nothing like a dress in the most perfectly made-for-me length ever, right out of the package!

Ohhh, the dress looks fab on you! Nothing like a great Bernie dress, huh? I loveee the Veronique cut. It's my second fav, after the Kelly. Large fits me perfectly, as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you, my dear size twin! Which Veroniques do you have? I feel like a Pokemon trainer -- I'm hooked and I gotta catch 'em all! The Kelly is such a dream, too!
DeleteI need to jump on these toile dresses.....the red one you have is fab and so is this one!!! Need to be rich :-/
ReplyDeleteToile is so pretty! I got this one from Zulily…they sometimes have Bernies for reasonable-ish prices!
DeleteWahoo! Veronique for the win! You look awesome! The only reason I don't have this dress is bc I have the Folter skeleton version and IDK if it would be overkill hahahaha. We'll see... I remember the Bush/Dukakis election results coming in, though it's a vague one snap memory of just watching my parents watch the TV around the kitchen table. This election is kind of my least favorite memory so far....
ReplyDeleteThank you! I am so glad that a little bird clued me in to how great the Veronique is! Toile is such a wonderful pattern, too!
DeleteThe rest of your comment is still cracking me up! "One-snap memory," hahaha so perfect! This election really makes me unhappy too!
