Review: Pinup Couture Dee Dee Dress

It's been a long time since I've lived in a place where summer is a Thing, rather than just a continuation of the same perfect weather we had all year 'round. After months of dreary, windy, damp nonsense, this girl's thoughts have turned to flights of barbecue and summer-festival fancy. I've heard that Chicago really comes alive in the summer, and I'm excited to experience that for myself. (Sidebar: 'excited' is probably the single most-frequently-used word on this blog.)
Pinup Couture Dee Dee Dress

I'm going to be honest with you: I'm still not sure how I feel about this dress. After admiring it for months and months, I finally went for it during the site wide sale PUG had in early April. These photos were actually taken shortly after I got the dress, but I'd been holding off on writing a post while I tried to decide exactly what I think of it.

One of the things that really sold me on the dress is the shorter length. It's part of their 'petite-friendly' collection, which was exciting, as most of my PUG (with the exception of my Darling Dames skirt) is a little bit longer than I'd like. I'm also a sucker for pockets, and cute trim, so this dress seemed like a no-brainer. When the dress arrived, I was a little surprised by how bright it is.

The bigger issue for me is that it's actually a little too long-waisted for me, which I found quite odd. Considering that I'm only 5'2, my torso is actually not that short, and usually, I need a little extra length in tops/dresses in the torso so that they'll fit my bust without accidentally becoming an empire-waist garment. I'm also not sure if it's a little too on-the-nose 1950s-housewife for me. Owing to these doubts, I haven't actually worn it out and about. On the bright side, I'd read of some people having issues with how tight the cuffs are, but this isn't an issue for me despite all the weights I've been lifting! I'm also quite pleased with the skirt length, and the Peter Pan collar.
I'm a big fan of the sweep/length of the skirt!

I'm not entirely sure of what I thought I was doing here, but I'm rolling with it.
Perhaps if I stare off into the middle distance, I'll figure out what I think of this dress. (Note: it didn't work.)

It's quite unusual that I don't have a strong opinion about something, so I'm going to put the question to all of you: should it stay or should it go?

  2. The dress is lovely, though I hear you on this awesome honest review. I've been eying this dress in the yellow and grey color ways but haven't purchased them too because I also don't love the "on the nose" house wife look. I get it. IDK if you should keep it or not. Having dresses that you could wear frequently but don't take up space. But this is a pseudo collectable and one day it may fit better or could be altered? I'm a bad influence...

    1. It's so difficult to decide! Honestly, I expected the torso to be a bit shorter, since it's shorter overall. The yellow might be a little less housewife-y because it isn't gingham, though. And with a different belt/no petticoat, maybe it would look a little less on the nose?

  3. I see what you are saying about the torso. I think it looks good on you....how do you feel about getting it tailored to your torso?

I also purchased one of the petite dresses and still need to lose a bit of weight before I can wear it....the pockets pucker and make me look weird. LOL

    1. I'm not sure about tailoring it, since I'm not sure how big of a job (read: how expensive) it would be… which dress did you get?!?

  4. All the PUG items I order (besides skirts) are long waisted (by that you mean the waist seam/line is below your waist right? Cause that's how I read it) for me!! I am 5'2" as well. It's like they make all their stuff for taller gals, even the petite lines! I always hesitate to splurge on a PUG dress because of that! Anyway, I think this is ADORABLE on you but you have to be comfortable.
