One of my favorite places at the Field Museum is the birds collection. It's always a hotbed of activity and there's usually something nifty to see, whether it's eggs collected near Shelter Island in the 19th century, rainbow-bright stuffed birds from all over the world, or a live peregrine falcon accompanying its owner to work. So when Trashy Diva released their latest collection, Birds of a Feather, I was flying high! (Sorry.) And with a dress in my all-time favorite TD cut, the circle Day Dress, this collection felt like it was meant to be.
Now, I do realize that at almost six months pregnant, I shouldn't be buying things for myself, let alone new dresses, but have you seen this print? Do you know how much I love my Venice Nights Day Dress? Resistance was futile.
If you know anything about me, you know that there are few things on the good Earth that bring me as much joy as twirling in a circle skirt. This dress certainly twirls with the best of them! As much as I love my stretch rayons, I'm a big fan of TD's cotton voile for summer. It's a lovely breathable fabric that drapes so perfectly in this ultra-feminine, ultra-sophisticated style.
The Audubon-inspired print is even more incredible in person: the birds are so detailed and the colors are beautifully saturated hues that work for any season. With so many colors in the print, the world is definitely your oyster when it comes to styling this one. Once cardigan weather (and my waistline!) return, I'll be wearing this with sage green, mustard yellow, and red (of course!), and it would also look lovely with a mid-tone cadet blue or even brown.
Also, can we just talk about these rhinestone buttons?!?
As far as sizing goes, I ordered both the 10 (my usual size in non-stretch TD recently) and a 12, figuring I could think about whether I wanted to be super optimistic about returning to my pre-pregnancy size while it was on its way.
After trying both on, I decided to keep the 12, since I can wear it for at least a little while longer, and then (hopefully) again once the baby is born. The 12 measures 15.5" at the waist and 20" from armpit to armpit, meaning it's running a bit smaller than the size chart. Busty ladies will definitely want to size up and slap a belt on this one.

While the first run of the Birds Day Dress sold out in a flash, it's back on the site for preorders, so I wanted to get my review up quickly in case you're pondering which size to get. (I assume that like me, you already absolutely have to have it omg cannot wait.) I can't wait to wear this to work and ask all the orinthologist to tell me which species I'm wearing!

ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Lindsey! Aren't bird prints just the best? They're novelty, but somehow a bit less over the top than some other types of novelty prints.

ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I've been considering cutting it quite a bit, but don't want to lose the ability to do a crown braid while it's super hot out.

Thank you so much! It's so hard to find actual maternity wear in fun, colorful prints and styles I like, so I've mostly just bought things in a larger size or worn skirts up over my bump. I can't wait to wear this dress to work!

Thank you so much! I'm all about novelty prints :).
DeleteThis is another one that I can't decide if it's for me or not, but I will say that I love that this is a print that is involving birds and not that romantic, flirty, or feminine. I love a "put a bird on it" look that is literal and graphic birds. Again, you look amazing! I can see why you need all the TD dresses....they totally suit you!!
