Review: Lola Von Rose

Ever since I picked up my first wicker bag last year, I've had a massive thing for more structured purses. Let me tell you, it took a truly impressive amount of self-control to keep myself from taking any cute lucite purses home at May's Vintage Garage, but happily, this lovely little Lola Von Rose number was dangling off my wrist, reminding me that my white-lucite-bag needs are totally fulfilled.

When Lola Von Rose had a 30% off sale about a month ago, I didn't hesitate. I ordered this bag right on the L, immediately after seeing the sale on their Instagram. It arrived in just a couple of days, wrapped snugly and safely in packing paper and double-boxed.

Is there anything more exciting than arriving home from work to a new purse? After extracting it from the packaging and ripping (ok, carefully snipping) off the tags, I immediately crowed over my gleaming new piece of vintage-inspired delightfulness to Jeff. Having received no reaction, I escalated to dancing around our living room and wiggling my butt in his general direction, at which point he agreed that it was a very nice purse. (Victory!)

This bag is both pretty and practical, which is always a plus. Unlike some of my true vintage purses, it's the perfect size for my wristlet-size wallet, phone, work ID badge, headphones, and a lipstick. It looks so cute with all my dresses, and the pure white works with just about any print in my closet.

I'm very pleased with the quality, as well. After a thorough road test, I can tell you with confidence that it's quite well made and sturdy. All of the edges line up perfectly and it fastens snugly and securely, so I feel good about taking this purse out and about even when the weather isn't great. I'll admit that I was a little nervous to buy a lucite-style purse, since I was afraid they'd be too delicate for normal use, but this one held up perfectly to a full day of hanging on my wrist and being jostled around by everything I'd bought at Vintage Garage, as well as numerous other outings around Chicago.

I wholeheartedly recommend Lola Von Rose if you're in the market for a lucite purse, and I'm crossing my fingers that they restock the red version, so I can pick that one up as well! At present, this bag is still available in white, pink, lilac, and mint green. Are you a fan of vintage-style bags?

    1. Awww, thank you! I am such a sucker for an excellent fruit print! And red is such a lovely color on you -- between that and purple, you really must have a hard time choosing! Luckily they look really good together, too... (opens tab to search for purple dresses...)

  2. I love Lola Von Rose purses. I had one this weekend at a rockabilly pinup festival and received numerous compliments. They do hold a good amount.

    1. What color is yours? I'm really hoping they restock the red (of course!) because that would go with practically everything in my wardrobe.

It's the perfect purse for a festival, too!

  3. I love Lola Von Rose! Their bags are so well made and perfect reproductions (especially for those of us who are afraid they'll break an original lucite bag- aka me). I love how you styled the bag with this outfit, too. I'm dying to get my hands on the mint green and lilac bags!

    1. YES! I'm glad I'm not the only one who lives in mortal terror of destroying true vintage purses. That mint green is absolutely gorgeous, but I love how yours looked with the tiki wiggle skirt!

    1. My flatlay skills need *serious* work -- the lighting in my apartment isn't great and I need to get some cute backgrounds. But oh my goodness, the print is SO gorgeous up close!

    1. <3 Thank you! I'm not great at vintage hair and can't stand wearing foundation, but this bag helps to give a more authentic 1950s touch to my outfits.

  9. This purse is totally adorable! I bet it goes with so many of your outfits too! It's always hard to strike a balance between buying a stylish bag that also fits a sensible amount inside, so I'm glad you've found a winner here! You look gorgeous as always!

    1. Much as I was tempted to get the red one, I think the white is probably the most versatile choice. Thank you so much! Doesn't a nice purse just make you feel good? It certainly put some pep in my step!

  10. So cute!! Question about the dress, though---after much careful plotting, I'm hoping to finally make my first Retrospec'd purchase! I was recently burned by some other cotton retro dresses, though..... offerings from Retrolicious and Heart of Haute that were big (was actually planning to take them to the tailor after washing), that, even with following the washing instructions, shrunk on the first go to where they're snug :( . Retrospec'd 's customer service is lacking in replying to questions, so...... did you find your dresses shrunk when you washed em? How much??

(I plan on machine washing on "gentle" and then hang drying... and have sensitive skin, so I always wash clothes once before wearing em out. I know this is getting technical, but I found your blog around the same recent time that I've been deciding to embrace more retro clothes for the summer, have loved your outfits and reviews... but most bloggers never mention that part about their clothes---maybe bc theyre still new when being reviewed and havent been washed yet?? But I want to live in these works of art! :) ).

    1. I actually haven't washed this one yet, because I often wear things several times before popping them into the wash. My other Retrospec'd dress didn't seem to shrink when I washed it, though. I will say that unless you're looking at a style with elasticated panels in the back, I wouldn't try to size down. Their other styles don't have stretch, or even very much 'give.'

I usually lay dresses flat to dry or hang them over a bar at the waistband, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

I'll update you when I wash it!
