Review: Trashy Diva Red Fans Anne

Trashy Diva is seriously on a roll in recent months. First, the Ruffled Feathers collection marked a glorious return to TD's storied novelty-print tradition and launched a thousand hilarious hashtags (most of which were NFSW.) Then they released the Mahjong print in an Annette style and I lost my everloving mind over it. After that, I thought they were done for a while, but not even a month later, they announced the newest collection, Red Fans, and previewed it on Instagram. So of course, I lost my mind again. How could I not? The print is red, people! I also have a slightly embarrassing weakness for Japanese prints, for which I blame my time in Nagasaki, so this collection was a guaranteed hit for me.

But the real kicker was the new style they introduced with this print: the Anne. It's based on an Annette, with that unique dip inwards where the straps meet the bodice and the lovely higher neckline, but rather than a gathered skirt, it features a circle skirt. A circle skirt with pockets! That is basically my style Kryptonite.
Trashy Diva Anne Red Fans
In case the abundance of italics and exclamation points didn't clue you in already, I'm more or less utterly obsessed with this dress. It's hard to decide where to begin with this review, because when I think about this dress, I think in shouty capitals.

Deep breaths, Emily.

First of all, pairing an Annette bodice with a pocketed circle skirt was the best idea in human history and Trashy Diva deserves some sort of Nobel Prize. Literally everything about this dress is perfect, and I'm hoping against hope that the collection they're teasing for next week contains another Anne dress. I'm slightly but not egregiously short-torsoed (considering my height, this is a miracle), but the waist of this dress falls at the perfect spot. For those of you who don't have my exact measurements, though, the straps of this dress are adjustable, which I'm pretty sure is another solid Nobel-worthy consideration in the Anne's favor.

The dress is extraordinarily flattering and comfortable, which is very important to me. If you're lucky enough to have anything from the Sci-Fi Rockets collection, then 1) I'm incredibly envious of you, 2) please sell it to me!, and 3) Red Fans is made of the same lightweight stretch cotton. I went with a size 8 because I thought I remembered a friend telling me that she had the Rockets Annette in an 8, but I think I was wrong. It doesn't matter, though, because the dress fits like a glove. Measured flat and not stretched at all, my dress is 18" across the top of the back and a shade under 15" at the waist. Because the back is a little bit lower than the fullest part of my bust, it fits my 39" bust snugly but well.

The only thing I'd change slightly is the print placement on the bodice. I saw one on Facebook that looked a bit more symmetrical, and had a twinge of print-placement envy.

Apart from that, this is an absolutely perfect dress: it's made for twirling, has enormous pockets, is red, and fits like a dream! As I write this, all sizes are still available in the Anne, but the Mahjong Annette went super fast, so I wouldn't dilly-dally on this one!

Is it just me, or do I look taller than usual, too?

Full skirts = joy

It might be 90 degrees and humid in Chicago, but as the Starks like to remind us, Winter is Coming. How would you style this dress for cold days? My instinct is black tights/sweater, but if you have any other ideas, I'm all ears!

    1. Aww, thank you! I'm OBSESSED with Annettes…I checked eBay in the middle of writing this post, just in case one of the ones I'm searching for magically popped up (it didn't; oh well!)

    1. Once you really get started with TD, it's hard to stop! What do you think of Lilac Atomic?!? I'm hoping it arrives before my birthday, so I can wear it that day. The more I look at these photos, the less I mind the asymmetry of the print placement.
