Review: Betty Le Bonbon Swing Skirt

Way back in February, I chronicled my thoughts on ethical shopping. In that post, I committed myself to 'shopping small' whenever possible. One of the small businesses I'd had my eye on for a while was Betty Le Bonbon, an Australian creator of custom vintage-reproduction clothing. Jas, the owner, seems to have an uncanny ability to zero in on amazing fabrics, prints, and dress/skirt patterns, and after stalking her Instagram for a couple of months, I finally spotted a print that I absolutely had to have.
The houses and shops of this print remind me a bit of Oregon Trail 2, which, while definitely not the classic that the original Oregon Trail was, had much better graphics. I saw the swatch while scrolling through my feed just before bed, and sent off an email immediately to inquire about availability. A few emails later, my order was placed, and I settled in to wait. Approximately two months later, I had a lovely custom-made half-circle skirt in this adorable print!

I'm so happy with my skirt! The print is so much more detailed in real life than it appeared in the swatch on my phone, the pattern is perfectly matched from panel to panel of the skirt, and the waistband has two of those study bar-closure metal things (the technical term, of course), which are a very nice touch! This skirt fits me exactly, which isn't surprising as she makes each garment to your exact measurements. All in all, I'm quite happy with my first Betty Le Bonbon experience, and am keeping my eye on her Instagram for the next print that grabs my eye!

How would you style this skirt?

  1. Yes, the skirt looks amazing on you!! Jasmine is the best. I also love shopping small, and do it as much as possible. Since you asked, I would probably pair this skirt with my yellow peasant top, and some red BAIT Idas. But, you did a great job of styling it!! :)

    1. Thank you! I love the print on yours, too. The yellow peasant is a brilliant idea! And I do have the red Iones, although they need a little more breaking in before I'll be ready to wear them to work.

    1. She has some truly amazing prints, and I really like my skirt. As you can see, it sits properly without a petticoat, too, just in case you need a little enabling ;).

Ah, Oregon Trail 2… it took all the fun out of obsessively hunting your way out West, yet the graphics were so good for their day!
