One Skirt, Three Ways: Tiki Jenny Skirt (!!!)

Warning: I consumed a great deal of caffeine shortly before sitting down to write this post, and this was my ultimate Pinup Girl Clothing holy-grail skirt, so this post may contain even more exclamation points than usual.

For many fans of pinup style, the Tiki Jenny is the big kahuna. (Yeah, I did that on purpose. No shame.) It was at the tippy-top of my wishlist for ages, and one magical day, lightning struck! The brilliant Jessica of Warning: Curves Ahead and Fortuna Femme spotted one on the swap group on Facebook, tagged me, claimed it in my name, and even offered to lay out the cash to the seller so that I could have it! When I saw all of that, I actually had too many feelings to function! I was just so excited and touched by her thoughtfulness and kindness.

I don't want to extol the virtues of this print TOO much, since I don't want people who haven't found one to feel sad, but it's absolutely fabulous and I love it more than I think one should love an article of clothing. However, there's good news: this print will be released in a new colorway this summer! I'm planning to Buy All the Things.

Outfit #1

This was my headcanon for the perfect tiki outfit long before I'd acquired either the top or the skirt. Happily, it lived up to my expectations and then some! I'm a huge fan of the colors in the skirt, and the olive sateen that PUG uses is my newest obsession, so this outfit feels like destiny. I doubled down on the tiki theme in my choice of my purple orchid hair clip, and wore my ancient orange and yellow wooden earrings. This outfit made me so happy! But it also set the bar pretty high for future tiki-skirt outings...

Outfit #2

This outfit is definitely a strong contender for any and all fun outdoor stuff I end up doing this summer! As you might have noticed, I'm a huge fan of stripes. I tend to think that any time you want to wear a solid black or white top, a striped top will be approximately a billion times more exciting. This skirt is such an exciting print that I wanted to keep it relatively simple on top, and this tank top from several years back fit the bill. This is also the first outing for my pineapple brooch, which felt quite appropriate! The coral belt is a surprisingly good match for one of the colors in the skirt, and I like the rather understated bow on the front!

Now that I've come up with this outfit, I hope we end up going to some exciting festivals and whatnot this summer!

Outfit #3

It was actually harder than I expected to find clothes in my wardrobe that matched the colors in this skirt well, but then I remembered that I'd recently picked up this sweater from Sourpuss. It's lovely and soft, and while it's not exactly the same shade as either of the coral-pinks in the skirt, it's close enough that it works quite well! This neckline is one that I'm suddenly obsessed with, too, as it's an interesting shape and fairly flattering, too. I don't often reach for brown anything, but this light brown belt feels appropriate for a tiki-print skirt. Finally, I decided to make an extra-big puff (pompadour? quiff?) with my hair, because I love this skirt and wanted to live large.
Top: Sourpuss
Belt: Banana Republic, from sometime in the Stone Age
Brooch: Atomic Lucite
Shoes: Gap

So those are the first of what will likely be many, many outfits featuring this skirt! It's hard to decide which is my favorite, but I might be partial to the olive top, just because I'm completely obsessed with that color right now.

Which of these looks do you like best?

  1. Ahhh that Tiki Jenny! I'm so jealous (and so glad that they're going to be bringing out a new colorway!). I'm a fan of pairing black & white stripes with absolutely everything too haha, but I think my top fave is the Sean top. The green looks so good with the skirt! Here's to a tiki-tastic summer!

    1. That sneak peek of the new tiki/Italian landscape fabric almost made me drop my phone out of flustered excitement! I hope they do a tiki Harley or Aurora/Lana -- the Jenny is a little long on me for summer, in my opinion. Stripes go with everything! I'm looking forward to reading more posts on your blog about tiki spots in MKE!

    1. The Sean is so underrated! I need to find a good tiki bar in Chicago. Hope you're having a fun Memorial Day Weekend -- looks like you've been going to lots of cookouts, which is always the best!

    1. Aw, thank you <3!!! This one is absolutely my most exciting skirt. The Sourpuss top is like magic, too -- I'm tempted to get the other color! But my shirt drawer is exploding, so I should probably restrain myself ;).
