While my heart belongs to the Kelly dress forever, I do recognize the value of expanding my Bernie Dexter horizons. The Saturday Night dress intrigued me for a long time before I finally took the plunge. I liked the neckline and the way that the straps balanced perfectly on Bernie's shoulders in all her photos, but underbust seams and I haven't historically gotten along, so I held off. When the McCall's print popped on Zulily a while back, though, I threw it in my cart alongside the Antonella.
Since I'm trying out a new style, I figured I'd also try out some new poses.
The print of this dress is so unique and fun! It makes me wish I knew how to sew, so that I wouldn't secretly feel, when wearing it, like I was constantly 10 seconds away from having this one particular guy I went to middle school pop out from behind a bush and shout 'poser!' at me.

I am proud of that calf muscle!
In a plot twist that will surprise precisely nobody, I decided to jazz things up with red accessories. It's practically a rule: if it can be worn with red, it must be worn with red!
In other news, I've had Halloween-related conversations with a couple of friends this week, and it made me realize how completely unprepared I am. With one exception, I've always had an absolutely horrendous time deciding on a costume. (That exception, if you're wondering, was when I dressed up as Bilbo Baggins in fifth grade and NOBODY knew who he was because the films hadn't yet come out. How embarrassing!) Actually, the more I think about my illustrious Halloween-costume career, the more disasters keep surfacing from the very small pool of Memories I Repressed.
Thus, I need your help! What should I be for Halloween?

Wow! I'm loving this dress.

Thank you so much! It's so easy to accessorize, too :).
DeleteOh my, you are just divine! I love that dress and that print is sew cute! (Pun totally intended.)
ReplyDeleteI love that you went as Bilbo in 5th grade. How awesome is that?? Unfortunately, I don't really have any suggestions for a Halloween costume. I'm probably going to be Dany just because of my hair. :P
That pun absolutely made my day!
DeleteDany is a great idea for you -- I have a stuffed dragon named Drogon that you could borrow if you'd like! I'd actually considered going as Arya, but my hair is too long and I don't really have anything brown or ragamuffin-y. A guy I went to grad school with used to go as the Dude every single year…maybe I'll get a bathrobe and some White Russian supplies and do that!

I am usually SO bad with Halloween but I have a few ideas up my sleeve....IT MUST BE A SURPRISE!!!
ReplyDeleteAlso, you're killing it with your new poses - your expressions are spot on. Do I see a little bit of Bernie Dexter herself in your last pic? ;)
You know I agree on the red details girrrrrlll! ;)
I am so excited for all the surprises you're planning -- from the leopard + color post to the costumes, I am just like *grabs popcorn and pulls up a chair!* Clearly, I need to think harder about my costume, too.
DeleteThanks for the encouragement re: the new poses! I was trying SO HARD for a good Bernie smile, but had a hard time keeping my eyes open and smiling widely at the same time. That last photo might be the closest I'll ever get!
Red team for life!
LOVE, how you incorporate red, it's such a beautiful & energetic colour + it's making me realize I need a red belt in my life, stat! As for Halloween costumes? Oh my gosh, yes, I'm always so bloody stumped, but this year... I'm thinking of going as Dorothy from Wizard Of Oz, I have the most perfect blue vintage dress and now I'll just need to thrift some red heels and I'm all set!! xo

Red really does jazz things up, doesn't it? I hope you find a good red belt! Your Halloween costume idea is fabulous! Red heels shouldn't be too hard to find, and if you have any sort of wicker basket, you're good to go! Can't wait to see the photos <3!
DeleteSo much to comment on! One, you look great in red so keep that rule! Second, love the dress. I like the Saturday Night styles (I have one or two...maybe more; there's another style that's similar and I think I get them confused) but I'm not as in love compared to other styles. I have this print but in (the name is escaping me!!!) the style with the black spaghetti straps and tiered ribboning. I love(d) it, but got it when I was still underweight. It still fits fine but the tiered stuff around the thighs bothered me last time I tried to wear it because it made me feel my curves were uneven and bottom heavy :( I regret not getting the one you have on Zulily and maybe selling the one I already have. IDK. That said I just ordered the color version Kelly of this on Unique Vintage, so I guess I'll be fine haha. Also, I know I've said it before but Just Shair has some ridic "sexy" outfits coming soon. I'm not sure they'll be REAL ideas, but maybe they'll jog an idea out of you! XO
