Wardrobe Remix: Bernie Dexter Veronique in Oranges

Among other things, in 2017 I'm working on appreciating what I already have, rather than going out and buying new things all the time. To document my efforts, I'm launching a new wardrobe-remix series on the blog, where I put a new spin on pieces I already own. My oranges-print Veronique dress from Bernie Dexter was the perfect first subject for this series, since I've had it for almost a year and was recently tempted to buy the same print in a long-sleeved shirtdress version. (I resisted! Geef me compliments.)

The last time I blogged about this dress was when I shared my bachelorette party in New York, way back in April 2016. I'd just gotten it at that point, and didn't have too many cropped cardigans yet, so I wore it with a black sweater, patterned black tights, ballet flats, the black belt it came with, and no petticoat. Since then, I've worn it with bare legs and no tights/petticoat in summer. I've also worn it to work with my go-to Bernie Dexter cleavage coverup: my kelly green cropped cardigan.

For the remix, though, I had three goals. First, I wanted to stay warm, so I chose one of my puffiest petticoats and thick, opaque tights. Second, I wanted to accent with green, so I chose my green Femme De Bloom sweater guards and a bright green belt from Amazon to go with my tights. Finally, I wanted to debut my new Voodoo Vixen cardigan, which is gorgeous and soft and perfect with a swing-skirted dress. This cardigan has the happy side effect of making this outfit work-friendly!

Even the fluffiest petticoat is smashed by the mighty Chicago wind.

To finish the look, I went with my elf boots (not their real name, but the name I've taken to calling them, because seriously look at them: they belong in Rivendell!) and actually took the time to do my eyebrows. I went with a rich berry lipstick instead of a screaming-hot fire engine red, ran outside to do the world's quickest, chilliest photoshoot, and was on my merry way!

So there you have it: my first outfit remix! How would you style this dress differently?

  1. STOP! First, I was JUST thinking of doing something similar for my blog since I have this weird habit of thinking that I CAN'T share the same thing twice. As if people really honestly notice or remember. Ah! So great minds think alike!

Second, SHUT THE FRONT DOOR I LOVE THIS OUTFIT SO MUCH! The green tights and sweater clips and belt - I have accessory OCD so this is HEAVENLY! It's an organized dream. A DREAM, I TELL YOU!

This may very well be my favorite outfit of yours ever - EVER!

    1. Oh my goodness, this is *definitely* a case of great minds thinking alike ;). I also feel like I can't really share the same thing twice, but honestly I'm beginning to think that isn't too realistic -- sharing ideas about remixing things people already have is actually a pretty useful type of post! DO ITTTTT!!

And thank you so much! I really really really love this shade of green, so when I found the tights, it was simply meant to be! I definitely need more colorful tights, because they're just so fun!

  2. love this dress and you look lovely! I love wearing dresses and boots in the Winter! I'd probably wear it with regular tights though as I don't have the confidence for green ones aha

    1. Thank you so much <3! Boots just make me so happy -- I have quite a few different pairs and in the dead of summer, I really miss them. Green tights are fun, but you're right: they're a bit of a conversation-starter, and definitely a bit loud!

  3. You have literally matched those greens flawlessly! And I totally love the idea of outfit remixing 😊 I love that it's a dress you can wear in all seasons so if I was to style it differently o would go for a summer look!

    1. Aw, thank you! I'm a huge fan of green, so I had to find the right greens to work with this dress. I'm looking forward to being able to wear this without a sweater or tights, because it'll mean our brutal Chicago winter is over.

    1. Oh my goodness, you are too kind -- thank you! I had to go with green accessories, since green is my favorite color of all time! Also, I'm not sure I'd be interested in wearing orange tights...

    1. Thank you so much! Honestly, if I didn't find ways to winterize my sundresses, I'd have a very dull wardrobe for almost half the year! Winter lasts foreverrrrr in Chicago.

    1. Thank you so much! I feel like I need to be a bit more practical with my clothing purchases, and make better use of what I have, so the Wardrobe Remix should help me be more diligent about that!

  8. Love that you are trying to appreciate more of what you already have and that you are showcasing pieces which have been on the blog before! I love seeing how bloggers can take a dress and change the look of it with different pairings for it. I'm also trying to buy less this year and appreciating what I already have more too so seeing this in your blog is a perfect reinforcement for me. Super congrats on passing on getting this print in a second print! Awesome will power! <3
