Vamping It Up

Wiggle dresses and fitted skirts terrify me. No matter how many crunches I do (and lately, I've done my fair share), my love of eating always defeats the better angels of my nature. What do I mean by this? Simply this: I have a squishy middle, and in fitted clothing, I'm pretty self-conscious about it. I think nothing of wearing a dress with a skirt the size of a house, but oddly enough, when people can see what my stomach looks like, I lose my everloving mind.

But – and there is always a 'but' with this type of story – I may have solved my wiggle-dress problem! I'm totally tardy to the Deadly Dames Vamp dress party, but I've finally shown up and that's what matters.
Fact: it is against the law to smile in a leopard-print wiggle dress

I feel like every dress I buy has a long, rambling backstory, and this one is no exception. Here goes: I've been eyeing the Vamp top for ages, but was nervous that the bust would be too small. Often when I get something with an under bust seam, it all ends in tears/borderline indecent exposure. In addition, I have a skirt from Deadly Dames, and it runs quite small. Given both of these facts, I was nervous that the Vamp would feel very inappropriate, if it fit me at all.

While I dithered about ordering one, they sold out in my size in most of the colorways I'd want. I've had a bit of a thing for leopard prints lately (by which I mean 'always,') so when the leopard top sold out, I figured it was game over.

However! I found a large on sale from Sourpuss at an unbelievable price. The catch? It was the dress, not the top. I left the tab open on my browser for a few days, and then lo and behold, a site wide sale popped up. I pulled the trigger. If it doesn't work out, I'll wear it under a swing skirt, I told myself.

Well, it arrived last week and I am in love! I put it on and could not believe how good I felt! If you've had wiggle-dress envy for years, but have felt self-conscious about having something rather tight around your lower abdomen, this is totally the dress for you. And if you aren't self-conscious, then 1) that is EPIC and you're my hero, and 2) this dress is still brilliant.

Fit and Sizing: Measured flat, the dress is 18" from armpit to armpit, 15.5" across the waist seam, and 18" at the hips. The perplexing thing is that my bust measures 39" (I just double-checked) and I know my hips are more than 36", yet the dress still has enough room that I think I might size down next time. And there's going to be a next time, particularly if I can find the baton rouge floral version for sale in an M or an L!
Still doing my 'u mad bro?' stare.
No-belt mugshot.
Sasstastic!

Have you ever met a life/style-changing garment? If so, clue me in, as I could certainly use more incredible things in my wardrobe!
