Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! I'm getting ready to do one of my favorite things in the world: cook a giant, elaborate holiday meal. There's something extra satisfying about holiday cooking: no matter what, the fact that somebody in the distant past arbitrarily decided to celebrate a certain day gets me in the party mood every single time.

This is the third Thanksgiving that I've cooked for just Jeff and me, and I'm trying to restrain myself and scale down my culinary ambitions from what I'd do for my entire extended family. (We'll see how well this turns out…I'd say there's a 50/50 chance that I'll go a little crazy and we'll be eating leftovers for the next week.) I'm planning to make my usual epic Christmas meal for my extended family, so today is basically my warm-up for the main event next month.

On that topic: would anybody be interested in a blog post with my time-tested tips for successfully preparing a holiday meal for 15-20 people? If so, let me know in the comments and I'll get to work!

It's Day 6 of Wiggle Week, and I've saved this Deadly Dames dress specifically to wear on Thanksgiving because 1) it's stretchy and 2) I've worn animal prints on Thanksgivings of yore. When I was trying to decide when to hold Wiggle Week, I very briefly considered pushing it back until after Thanksgiving, because I wasn't sure if anyone would be interested in wearing something form-fitted on a day devoted to eating.

After I thought about it, though, I realized that this was the perfect way to embrace and celebrate body positivity. As long as you're physically comfortable in what you're wearing, why should the prospect of a seriously epic food-baby dissuade you from wearing a fabulous dress? And further, the point of Thanksgiving is to surround yourself with your nearest and dearest, eat a ton, and reflect on the good things in your life. If any of your nearest and dearest are the type to judge you for getting a case of the holiday VBO, perhaps they need to rethink their priorities.

Thanksgiving is basically the Super Bowl of eating, and I'm not going to let myself feel ashamed of winning this particular game. However, around 3pm today, I *might* pass out on the couch after my first heaping plateful, not to emerge until I foolishly convince myself that I'm totally ready for more food. (It happens literally every year. Hopefully, Jeff won't take any photos of my turkey-like sleeping face!)

I hope that all of you have a fabulous day of eating, family/friend time, and fun ahead of you! If anyone needs me, I'll be killing time impatiently until it's a respectable hour to start cooking.

  1. Happy Thanksgiving to you too! I hope you had a great Thanksgiving. I cooked this year for Thanksgiving too. It was actually a lot more enjoyable than it usually is. I think the trick for me was just starting early enough and get some music going in the kitchen! :D There was no wiggles for me for actual Thanksgiving but I love the one you wore! <3

    1. Aw, thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed cooking this year -- I did too! I did miss my family, but listening to the Muppet Christmas album reminded me of them! What did you make for Thanksgiving dinner?

  3. Ha, I consider the Super Bowl "my thanksgiving" because I like the foods better on that day (not a turkey or mashed potato fan lol). You look wonderful and that's such a fun print! XO

  4. You look AMAZING, Emily! That dress is stunning on you! And holy smokes - I would be very interested in learning your tips for cooking for that many people! I struggle with just cooking for my husband and myself, haha. (Which I didn't even do for Thanksgiving this year. Doh!)
