Well, #WiggleWeek has come to a conclusion, and after a week of truly fabulous body positivity from lots of wonderful people, I'm feeling so much more comfortable in fitted dresses! There aren't enough words to express my gratitude to all of the amazing women who participated, but you can expect a wrap-up post where I use a lot of words trying ;). In the meantime, I've missed my petticoats and twirly skirts, and am so excited to debut my new Vixen makeup-print swing skirt today. I'd heard so many good things about the Vixen swings, and am happy to add another positive review to the chorus!
First things first: I had dithered for ages over whether I needed this skirt or the lipstick print, but eventually settled on this one because it's such a unique print. I also have the pink Vixen top, and loved how it looked with this skirt in all the photos I'd seen, so that helped to tip the scales as well.
This skirt arrived from Doll Me Up on Wednesday and let me tell you, waiting till today to wear it was such a struggle! This is one of those skirts that distracts me while I'm wearing it, because the print is so cute. Now that I've finally embraced the joy of winged eyeliner and red lipstick, this print feels extra appropriate.
As you can see, it's a lovely vintage length at 27.5" from waistband to hem. On me, this qualifies as tea-length! It's also exactly the right length for my Malco Modes Samantha petticoat, though for these photos I've paired it with my pink Jennifer. It's a perfect full gathered skirt and feels lighter, weight-wise, than a Jenny. This will be especially nice when warmer weather returns to plague me once again. Even with winter fast approaching, I appreciate the lighter weight, as it's quite comfortable to wear.
I'm also quite pleased with the fit. To fit my 30-31" waist, I went with the Large, which measures at a shade over 15" flat. The waistband has some give, though, which means it's still quite comfortable after a solid two days of Thanksgiving eating. I like the 1.75" wide waistband quite a bit more than narrower waistbands, as it doesn't feel like I'm being garroted by my clothing when I try to sit down after a meal. I've heard consistently good things about Vixen's sizing, and can report that all of my purchases thus far follow the size chart exactly.
In short, like seemingly everything Micheline Pitt makes, the makeup print swing skirt is pretty much the pinnacle of sartorial perfection, and I'm eagerly plotting my next Vixen purchases on the tab next to this one! In case you missed it, you can catch up on my other Wiggle Week posts (and see more Micheline designs!) here, here, and here. And if you're thinking about grabbing one of these skirts for yourself, Vixen's Etsy shop has a 20% off Black Friday sale through tomorrow night at 11:59pm PST. Just use the code VIXENBLACKFRIDAY!

As you can see, I still haven't gotten that haircut I've needed for months now…

LOVE that skirt! The colors in it are great. You convinced me to order it. :)
ReplyDeleteI tried to buy it from Micheline's Etst, but she messaged me later to let me know it over sold. So, I just snagged it from Retro Glam!
Oooh, Retroglam is such a great shop for finding sold out goodies. I'm glad they had one for you! It's so comfortable and that lovely Bakelite set you have will look great with the colors in this print!
DeleteLove your wiggle week but also love seeing you in the full skirts too! :D So cute on you!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you <3! It's good to have options, especially for windy days. This print is SO fun!
DeleteI L-O-V-E love that makeup print! Seriously, is there anything kitschier or cuter or more feminine? I'm obsessed, and that obsession is helped by the expert print mixing on display here. It just all looks so good!!
ReplyDeleteAwwww you are the sweetest! I made a special effort to wear mascara so I'd match the print. I thought about getting the dress, but figured I was better off sticking with a skirt so I could accessorize however I please!
DeleteNIIICE! I am so mad I missed wiggle week. I had every intention to participate and well, that week went by SO QUICKLY. OMG. Sigh. I join in spirit!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is so you, so so you. I love the stripes paired with it - is there ANY print stripes don't work with??
Thank you so much! I'll be sure to have another Wiggle Week next year <3. You can wear that fabulous Lindy Bop dress!
DeleteHonestly, there's no print in the world that I wouldn't wear with stripes 😂😂.
I LOVE this skirt! And you look lovely in it!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! It's such a girly pink but I'm really liking it as a change of pace from my usual red!
DeleteAbsolutely loved this post, you can really tell how much you adore that skirt and it shines through in your photos! Also a great amount of detail about the skirt whilst keeping it real in relation to how the skirt works day to day, eating etc. Really enjoyed reading!

Aw, thank you! My husband always tells me I've got no poker face, and I have such a hard time making serious faces when I'm excited! And honestly, how a skirt works for big meals is the most important information for me, haha!
DeleteThat skirt is gorgeous! Also I love how your confidence shines through in the photos! Also apologies for not taking part in wiggle week! I will next time maybe ;)
ReplyDeleteAlso your hair doesn't need a cut, it's gorgeous <3 xx

Thank you so very much! Wiggle Week had such a huge effect on my confidence, so I hope you'll join in next time <3.
DeleteI'm covered in split ends, so at the very least, I need a trim! (Well, that and I zipped a bit of hair in my skirt this morning because it's gotten so long!)
That skirt is absolutely gorgeous and suits you perfectly! U love these sort of posts because I'm so interested in other people's styles when they're so different to mine (jeans and a jumper!)

Thank you so much! It's fun for me to get a peek into different styles as well. I've never mastered jeans, sadly! It's so hard to find any that fit properly, while a full skirt just has to fit at the waist and you're good to go. (I'm secretly super lazy and hate having things altered!)
DeleteI love this skirt, you have the nicest pin up clothes over in the States, I just wish I could get it to the UK without having to pay a fortune in postage! I love that you've paired it with the stripy top, I would never think to do that - I'm terrible at styling skirts. I'm just getting into them after only going for dresses in the past.

I'm always so sad for you Brits when I hear about the postage/handling fees/duties you have to pay! I think Deadly is the Female is stocking Vixen, though. Keep an eye on their Instagram because they've been doing various sales all month! (Why do I follow an English shop? Well, why not, haha.)
DeleteStripes go with everything! The trick is to choose the right type of stripe for the print you're going to pair it with! Dresses are my first love, but skirts are actually pretty fun to have in your wardrobe!
I have yet to purchase one of her skirts, but it's good to know more about them via this post! Hope you've been well- I've been kind of MIA from blog world lately! You look great! XO

Oooh, I bet they'd look amazing and hit at the perfect length on you, like the lavender Mary Blair Jenny skirt! Hope all is well with you. I imagine you've got a ton on your plate right now (which I can *totally* understand, since I feel like all of my time lately is spent either working, or trying to play catch up on life!)
Delete<3!
cute skirt! I love the pink colour! xx
ReplyDeleteOk, this skirt is the stuff that dreams are made of! Wowzers is it adorable!! And good choice on the print. :) Ugh, I wish I would've participated in Wiggle Week - it is such an awesome idea. But you have inspired me to break out some of my Wiggle-worthy dresses in the very near future!
