Pretty in Plaid

Far and away, the best part of blogging is the new friends I've made. Immersing myself in a community of fabulous, supportive fellow clotheshorses has brought so much positivity and happiness to my life, and reading blogs helped me to get out of that new-city funk when I first moved to Chicago. A little over a week ago, I got to meet one of the very bloggers that I've admired since the early days of Thoroughly Modern Emily: Devinne from Mox and Socks! Her blog is one of my favorites around because of her incredible photo skills, fantastic style, uniquely thoughtful perspective, and creative hair tutorials, and since we've also gotten to know each other over Instagram, I was over the moon when we finally got to meet in person!

Spoiler alert: Devinne is awesome! It was so much fun to hang out in our respective tartan-inflected outfits and talk blogging, current events (is this infernal election over yet??), and shopping while petite.  She's one of those people that you instantly feel comfortable around, which made the shoot so much more fun. Also: she brought pumpkins to use as props, people. That is dedication to the fall-themed-blogger-photoshoot cause!

We went to a place called Mayslake Peabody Estate that Devinne's used for shoots before. It was absolutely gorgeous: all wide open spaces punctuated by tree-lined paths, an amphitheater and chapel, and a gorgeous Tudor-style mansion. There's just something extra special about a tree-lined path in autumn, when the leaves are starting to turn and the golden hour comes with 50% more golden-ness.

Combination photo of my glow-in-the-dark (!!!) Atomic Lucite earrings and BTS shot.
I had zero chill. Zero.

One of Devinne's shots. She definitely knows her way around a DSLR!

It was honestly a little hard to concentrate on not making goofy faces/doing That One Pose I Always Do, because everywhere you looked was gorgeous scenery and I was just so excited, but I tried to pick up some new ideas from Devinne and not ruin all her shots. Looking at the photos she took is really motivating me to get a DSLR and learn to use it, too!

She helped me finally figure out this pose!
I still can't get over how gorgeous Mayslake is.
Posing skills: 10/10!

I'm already looking forward to our next photoshoot! Devinne has a post up on her blog about our adventures, too, so be sure to check it out for even more autumnal fun! And if you don't already read Mox and Socks or follow her on Instagram…well, what are you waiting for?

    1. I had such a blast hanging out with you for this photo shoot too, and hope we can three-peat before too long. You need to come down for brunch at the Promontory, and then we can feast our eyes and cameras on the Gothic architecture of the U of C campus :).

    1. Oh my goodness, I hope we can find ourselves in the same city soon! I haven't been in Boston for almost a decade, now that I think about it…

I always love reading your posts about meeting blogger friends!

    1. It was a ton of fun! If you're ever in Chicago, let me know! And I'm hoping and praying for some new plaids from TD -- plaid is the perfect winter pattern, and I missed out on the turquoise plaid! Thanks for the kind words! The Annette is just a magical style.
