On the Prowl

We had about 30 seconds of fall-like weather last week, which means that I jumped at the opportunity to put together an outfit I've had in the back of my mind since May or so. Sadly, the temperature and humidity are both back in the 'too high to support Hallock life' range. While you're reading this, I'm probably either 1) thanking my lucky stars that the A/C at work is always set to Polar Freeze, or 2) lying on our ugly chairs in front of the fan with my tongue lolling out of my mouth, like some sort of miserable longhaired dachshund that's miraculously acquired the capacity to complain.

ANYWAY. Time to stop whining about the continued existence of summer. I'm a huge fan of leopard print, so when this Vivien of Holloway circle skirt popped up on the swap and sell Facebook group I'm in, I pounced. (Bad cat-related joke totally intended.) Circle skirts are basically the best thing known to humanity, at least if you like twirling madly about, and I was hugely impressed by my first Vivien of Holloway skirt.
If I'm not at work, I can usually be found doing this.

Sidebar: Jeff commented the other night that it's very likely that the university he works at hasn't ever seen anything quite like me, "between the blog pictures and the twirling everywhere." He is most likely correct: most academics tend to stick to a more neutral palette.
I don't know that academics typically do things like this, either. Jeff certainly doesn't!

Anyway part two: I'm a firm believer in pairing leopard with Very Bright Colors, and red is probably my top choice for a brown leopard print like this. I liked the look of the Jailbird top from Pinup Girl Clothing because the ruching at the bust reminds me of my old ballet leotards, and I'm nothing if not nostalgic! Bonus: the red Jailbird is a perfect match for my favorite ruby-red petticoat!

I've literally just (as in 'since typing the previous paragraph) ordered the orange peasant top from Pinup Girl Clothing, and I have a sneaking suspicion that it's going to pair nicely with this skirt and a wide black belt.

Hope everyone enjoyed Labor Day! Did you pick up anything fun in the Labor Day sales?

  1. So funny - I have just worked up a blog post featuring my own leopard print find!! In it, I gush how you can pair any color with it and it rocks! You'll have to wait and see what color I paired with it, though red is by far my favorite too!!

It made me giggle when you joked about Jeff and what his co-workers think of you. I wonder that too about Cody's people but I think it kinda makes Cody proud. I think deep down he likes that I stand out (and look good doing it!) and I bet Jeff is the same!!

    1. Yay, leopard print for all! I'm excited to see which color you picked, and to find out whether I'm guessing correctly! It's such a versatile, fun print.

We are definitely both fabulous catches, and our respective partners had best recognize that ;). I bet you make Cody proud! I'm definitely not afraid to stand out either -- I'm doing what makes me happy, and that's all I need!

    1. Thank you! Skirts with a twirl > skirts with no twirl.
