I'm Back

Hey, remember when I updated this blog like three times a week? Yeah, me too. I certainly didn't plan on taking a two-month hiatus from blogging, but 2017 hasn't exactly been kind to my family. If you follow me on Instagram, you might have some idea of what I'm talking about. Some of it isn't my story to tell, and truth be told, I'm not ready to get into the details that are mine to share. Suffice it to say that since my last post, I've either been sad, worried, or sick (or sometimes all three!), and just haven't felt up to photoshoots and upbeat posts.
Last weekend, my mother's family lost its matriarch, my grandma, and its hard to imagine our world without her. None of the words that come to mind quite seem to capture my feelings, so I'll wait to write about her until I feel I can do her justice.

Till then, though, I'll share the two most important things I learned from her. First, everything she did taught me to value the people I love, rather than status or money, and to take joy and pride in caring for the people I love. I've spent my life surrounded by the children she raised and I wouldn't trade that for anything in this world.

Second, she didn't wait for the right time in life to do the things she always wanted to do, which meant that she'd already packed a lifetime of adventures into the 49 years she'd lived before I was born, and had time for even more as her family grew. I hope I can remember, as adulting gets more challenging, to go out and do the things I dream of doing, rather than waiting till what looks like 'the right time' and missing out on creating a lifetime of memories.

Family Mets game, August 2013.

My family has been so touched and honored by all of the support that we've gotten from friends, coworkers, and neighbors. For me, though, I'd ask everyone to take the prayers they might say for my grandma and instead pray that this year, her beloved NY Mets finally win another World Series. I can't think of anything she'd like more.
