Pirate Treasure

What does my favorite neighborhood mural have to do with a pirate-print Trashy Diva dress? Well...nothing, unless 'both things make me happy' counts.

I somehow convinced Jeff to come outside early in the morning to take these photos of my Pirate Treasure Trixie dress on its maiden voyage, an act for which I owe him at least one bacon-centric meal. This mural is actually one of my favorite spots for a quick photoshoot. It's even in the header for my Facebook page! (Sidebar: have you liked my page? I post about every update there, so if you haven't, you definitely should!)

But because it's impossible for me to clamber up onto the ledge in front of the mural in the 10 seconds before the self-timer on my phone goes off, I rarely get to take my photos here.

Fortunately, Jeff can be bribed.

^thoughts on bribes.

I love this mural, and street art more generally, for the same reason that I love the print on this dress. Both are fun, bright, and visually interesting, and both liven up an ordinary day whenever you glimpse them. Have you ever worn something that you just couldn't stop looking at? Whenever I wear one of my favorite prints, it brings a smile to my face all day long.

But when a fabulous print is paired with a swingy, swishy, twirly skirt, I damn near lose my mind. (Exhibits A-D, Trashy Diva edition: my Berry Chantilly Hopscotch, my Carnival Annette dress, my Sci-Fi Rockets dress, and my first L'Amour dress.) I'll find myself walking down the halls at work, furtively peeking around to make sure I'm alone before busting out a pirouette in mid-stride. (Thus far, I've only been caught in the act once. It was less embarrassing than you might have expected.)

Captured in mid-sentence.

Pirate Treasure was one of the wildest Trashy Diva print releases I've witnessed, rivaled, perhaps, by the most recent Birds of a Feather release. Certain styles and sizes of Pirates sold out within hours, and I guess I'm pretty darn lucky that I was able to snag this Trixie in my usual medium even though I ordered it about two hours after the release! (What can I say? I was at a meeting up at the Botanic Garden, and ended up ordering from my phone whilst waiting for a bus in the freezing cold Chicago spring.)

I'm really glad I went with the Trixie rather than one of the other two dresses from this collection, because the stretch side panels make this a wonderful option for the pregnant vintage gal. I'm able to wear my prepregnancy size at almost six months pregnant, with a little room to spare. All I've needed to do is push the waist seam up over the top of my belly in front.

Given how much I love my Trashy Diva dresses, it's been wonderful to have a few in my closet that I can still wear for an instant pick-me-up! What's your go-to happy outfit?

  10. These colors are amazing on you! I didn't get this dress but occasionally reconsider if I should have/could (Idk if it's still in my size or not). There's SO MANY prints out there that 2017 is proving to be the year I've become more overwhelmed and have been quitting while I'm ahead. But this is amazing and you styled it perfectly!!

    1. Thank you so much! I really adore this print (#sorrynotsorry for the temptation) but had to go for it because of those stretch panels! I just can't wear boring maternity wear for six months straight!

  11. Ha! A bacon-centric meal seems like a good tradeoff for photos to me. I'm super impressed you found a good work around to wear your same size while pregnant! No dress will go unworn if you have anything to say about it. The print is totally fun, but I expect nothing less from you 😉

    1. Right?!? I really don't understand why he hates taking pictures so much. But he was very pleased with his bacon-wrapped meatloaf, so I'll likely be able to squeeze a few more photoshoots out of him! I'm definitely determined to stay in my novelty prints for as long as I can squeeze myself into them!
